Tubulin是微管的主要组成成分，微管是一种由α-和β-tubulin异二聚体组成的线性原丝横向结合形成的圆柱体。微管通过GTP-tubulin二聚体添加到微管末端而生长，并在末端形成稳定帽。在帽下方，由于α-tubulin的GTPase活性，tubulin二聚体处于GDP结合状态。
