功能描述

将唾液酸基团(N-乙酰-α-神经氨酰或NeuAc)从CMP-NeuAc转移至糖蛋白和糖脂NeuAc-alpha-2,3-Gal-beta-1,3-GalNAc序列中的GalNAc残基上,形成α-2,6-连接。通过将唾液酸基团转移至骨架核心链内部的GalNAc残基,生成分支型二唾液酸结构。ST6GalNAcIII偏好糖脂而非糖蛋白,主要催化从GM1b生物合成神经节苷脂GD1alpha (PubMed:16169874, PubMed:17123352)。GD1alpha是神经细胞与其支持细胞之间通讯和相互作用的关键分子,特别是在脑组织中,并在转移过程中作为粘附分子发挥作用 (By similarity)。糖蛋白或糖鞘脂的唾液酸化在肿瘤发展、神经发育、神经修复、免疫过程和激素敏感性调节中非常重要 (PubMed:17123352)。 {ECO:0000250|UniProtKB:Q9QYJ1, ECO:0000269|PubMed:16169874, ECO:0000269|PubMed:17123352}。

组织特异性

Expressed in brain and kidney (PubMed:16169874, PubMed:17123352). Observed in the epithelium of the proximal tubules, marginal expression was also found in the distal tubules and collecting tubules (PubMed:17123352).
