酮体分解代谢的关键酶。通过将辅酶A (CoA) 从供体硫酯类(琥珀酰-CoA)转移至受体羧酸(乙酰乙酸),催化肝外组织中酮体利用的第一步即限速步骤,并产生乙酰乙酰-CoA。乙酰乙酰-CoA进一步被乙酰乙酰-CoA硫解酶代谢为两个乙酰-CoA分子,随后进入柠檬酸循环产生能量 (PubMed:10964512)。形成二聚体酶,其中两个亚基均能形成酶-CoA硫酯中间体,但只有一个亚基能够将CoA部分转移给受体羧酸(3-氧代酸)并产生新的酰基-CoA。酶-CoA中间体的形成是通过酶和底物的羧酸基团之间形成的不稳定酸酐类物质进行的 (By similarity)。 {ECO:0000250|UniProtKB:Q29551, ECO:0000269|PubMed:10964512}。
组织特异性
Abundant in heart, followed in order by brain, kidney, skeletal muscle, and lung, whereas in liver it is undetectable. Expressed (at protein level) in all tissues (except in liver), most abundant in myocardium, then brain, kidney, adrenal glands, skeletal muscle and lung; also detectable in leukocytes and fibroblasts.
