似乎是精子尾部外致密纤维（ODF）的主要成分。ODF是位于哺乳动物精子尾部中段和主段轴丝外部的丝状结构，可能有助于维持精子尾部的被动弹性结构和弹性回缩。可能对精子运动能力具有调节作用。作为通用支架蛋白发挥作用，特异性定位于母中心粒的远端/亚远端附属物。中心体基质的成分，PLK1和NIN定位于中心体所必需的。正常CETN1组装的形成和/或维持所必需的。 {ECO:0000269|PubMed:16966375}。

组织特异性

Testis-specific (at protein level). Highly expressed in cytoplasm of step 2 round spermatids. Detected in the middle piece and extends to about half the principal piece of the sperm tails.
