功能描述

通过与其他extracellular matrix proteins（如collagens和fibronectin）的相互作用，在软骨的结构完整性中发挥作用。可通过与细胞表面integrin受体的相互作用介导chondrocytes与软骨extracellular matrix的相互作用 (PubMed:16051604, PubMed:16542502)。可能在骨关节炎的发病机制中发挥作用 (PubMed:16542502)。在原代chondrocytes和转化细胞中均是有效的细胞凋亡抑制因子。通过阻断caspase-3的激活并诱导IAP家族生存蛋白（BIRC3、BIRC2、BIRC5和XIAP）的表达来抑制细胞凋亡 (PubMed:17993464)。对于在生理和病理刺激下维持vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs)的收缩/分化表型至关重要。通过与ITGA7相互作用维持VSMCs的这种表型 (By similarity)。 {ECO:0000250|UniProtKB:P35444, ECO:0000269|PubMed:16051604, ECO:0000269|PubMed:16542502, ECO:0000269|PubMed:17993464}。

组织特异性

Abundantly expressed in the chondrocyte extracellular matrix, and is also found in bone, tendon, ligament and synovium and blood vessels. Increased amounts are produced during late stages of osteoarthritis in the area adjacent to the main defect.
