兼具L-天冬酰胺酶和β-天冬氨酰肽酶活性。可能参与L-天冬氨酸的产生，L-天冬氨酸在某些脑区可作为兴奋性神经递质。对L-Asp β-甲酯具有高度活性。此外，对β-天冬氨酰二肽及其甲酯具有催化活性，包括β-L-Asp-L-Phe、β-L-Asp-L-Phe甲酯（阿斯巴甜）、β-L-Asp-L-Ala、β-L-Asp-L-Leu和β-L-Asp-L-Lys。不具有天冬氨酰葡萄糖胺酶活性，且对GlcNAc-L-Asn无活性。同样，对谷氨酰胺无活性。 {ECO:0000269|PubMed:19839645, ECO:0000269|PubMed:27106100}。

Expressed in brain, kidney, testis and tissues of the gastrointestinal tract. Present in sperm (at protein level). Over-expressed in uterine, mammary, prostatic and ovarian carcinoma.
