降解细胞外基质成分（如纤维蛋白）的内肽酶。可能参与生长因子或炎症介质（如肿瘤坏死因子-α）膜结合前体的激活。也可能参与肿瘤过程。在 '74-Ala-|-Gln-75' 位点切割 pro-TNF。是否能蛋白水解激活 progelatinase A 尚不明确。不水解 I、II、III、IV 和 V 型胶原蛋白、明胶、纤连蛋白、层粘连蛋白、核心蛋白多糖或 α1-抗胰蛋白酶。
组织特异性
Expressed in brain, leukocytes, colon, ovary testis and breast cancer. Expressed also in many transformed and non-transformed cell types.
