功能描述

全基因组从头甲基化所必需,对于发育过程中DNA甲基化模式的建立至关重要。DNA甲基化与组蛋白甲基化相协调。可能优先甲基化核小体核心区域内的核小体DNA。可能通过与CBX4结合,且不依赖于DNA甲基化,作为转录共抑制因子发挥作用。似乎参与基因沉默(通过相似性)。与DNMT1结合并通过募集CTCFL/BORIS,通过调节启动子组蛋白H3在H3K4和H3K9处的二甲基化,参与BAG1基因表达的激活。异构体4和5由于缺失了两个保守的甲基转移酶基序,可能没有功能。通过与ZHX1结合,作为转录共抑制因子发挥作用。体细胞中DUX4沉默所必需 (PubMed:27153398)。 {ECO:0000250, ECO:0000269|PubMed:16357870, ECO:0000269|PubMed:17303076, ECO:0000269|PubMed:18413740, ECO:0000269|PubMed:18567530, ECO:0000269|PubMed:27153398}。

组织特异性

Ubiquitous; highly expressed in fetal liver, heart, kidney, placenta, and at lower levels in spleen, colon, brain, liver, small intestine, lung, peripheral blood mononuclear cells, and skeletal muscle. Isoform 1 is expressed in all tissues except brain, skeletal muscle and PBMC, 3 is ubiquitous, 4 is expressed in all tissues except brain, skeletal muscle, lung and prostate and 5 is detectable only in testis and at very low level in brain and prostate.
